Tips to Find the Best Gifts For Dad

Some dads are plain difficult to shop for; which is very frustrating when your wish is to find that perfect token of your love and appreciation for him, his sacrifices, and wisdom.  It can get even worse if your budget is far from extensive, fact that narrows your options in stressful ways.

Your main goal is to put a smile on his face and convey the message: "I care, and I know you".  In fact, this is the first tip in a list that hopefully will brighten your way towards finding that perfect symbol of your love for dad.

1. Know what is meaningful to your dad.  Some dads will not appreciate a material thing as much as a hug or a walk with their sons or daughters. Every dad should be shown love differently, according to what touches their hearts.  Think of what he likes.  Maybe he is a big sports fan, or maybe he spends too much time alone and would like some company and, just maybe, he simply wishes for a hug.
    
2. Listen carefully to your dad's comments when you see each other or talk on the phone.  What is he concerned, curious, or happy about?  Is there something related to those conversations that may turn into a memorable gift?  Maybe he heard a new piece of music which delighted him, and he talked to you about the musician and the impression it caused.  Go get him a CD or book related to it.
    
3. Watch his behavior and routine.  Is there something you can give him that will assist him with it in a nice way?  Does he have to take pills, or is he worried about money lying around?  What about giving him beautiful brass pill holders to carry his medicine in style or a shiny titanium capsule to hide cash?  The smallest daily issue can become a big opportunity for giving in creative ways.
    
4. Never believe him when he says he doesn't want a gift.  Normally, dads say that because they are not interested in material stuff, but their hearts will beat in joy with a visit, a cup of coffee in your company, or watching the game together.  A small cake and singing happy birthday is a great complement too.
    
5. Turn to food and hobbies.  There are many things dad wouldn't buy for himself.  Buy him his favorite treat, or even better, cook it for him.  The real gift is the fact that you remembered he loves chocolate chip cookies, or pecan pie, or pistachio ice cream.  Be careful with his diet though, get him something that will not harm his health.  If he loves cars, get him a subscription to a good car magazine; if he enjoys gardening, buy him a book about his favorite plants, or something completely new for him to learn. DVD's about hobbies are great options too and available for almost any topic imaginable.
